Assistant City Manager – International City/County Management Association (ICMA) Veterans Position open until filled; priority review of candidates by Monday, Nov. 17, 2025. City of Lewisville offers competitive salary starting at $230,000 annually depending on qualifications, plus a superior benefits package. Residency in Lewisville is not required. Position Summary Assists in planning, directing, managing, and reviewing activities and operations of the city. Coordinates city services among departments and with outside agencies. Provides complex administrative support to the City Manager, manages subordinate department directors/managers, and performs duties in the City Manager's absence. Essential Functions Assumes management responsibility for assigned departments/divisions. Directs activities of assigned departments by meeting with managers to assign projects, review work methods, and resolve problems. Ensures departmental operations comply with applicable laws, ordinances, and city council directions. Assesses and monitors workload, administrative systems, and internal reporting; identifies improvement opportunities and implements changes. Represents city with outside agencies; coordinates activities with other cities, counties, and organizations. Provides professional staff assistance to the City Manager; supports assigned boards and commissions; represents City Manager in absence. Prepares and presents staff reports and necessary correspondence. Responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints. Manages and supervises special projects and task forces. Remains abreast of new trends and innovations in city management and administration. Negotiates contracts and agreements with governmental agencies, businesses, consultants, and other parties. Explains, justifies, and defends city programs, policies, and activities. Position Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, engineering, construction management, or related field. Graduate degree preferred. Experience: Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible municipal government administration or management, including four (4) years of managerial experience. No specific licenses or certifications required. Must submit to and pass a pre‑employment drug test; must possess a valid Texas Class “C” driver’s license with a good driving record. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of city management programs, municipal budgeting, federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and personnel policies. Skills in administering city goals and objectives, analyzing programs, planning, organizing, directing staff, interpreting policies and regulations, adjusting operations, preparing budgets, negotiating, and presenting reports. Strong communication skills, both written and oral; proficiency in Microsoft Office and related computer applications. Ability to work independently, build relationships, and perform effectively with diverse groups. Physical Demands Primarily sedentary office classification; requires standing, walking between work areas, and routine handling of materials up to 10 lbs. Requires good vision, hearing, and speech. Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials up to 10 lbs. Work Hours Flexible 9‑hour days Monday–Thursday and a 4‑hour day on Friday.
